Lori Wood joined the Treaty 8 Tribal Association (T8TA) team in December 2006 and since August 2008, has become the Receptionist/Archivist for the Treaty and Aboriginal Rights and Research Department (TARR).

The TARR Department supports research and submits specific and comprehensive claims for First Nations rights recognition, to the Federal Government of Canada on behalf of the T8TA member First Nations. Specific Claims are when a First Nation alleges the federal government has not honored its treaties, agreements or legal responsibilities. Comprehensive Claims are when a First Nation asserts aboriginal rights and title to land where no land surrender treaties were made.

Lori’s contribution is important to our organization. She is responsible for developing, managing and updating the Treaty 8 Archives and compressive archival database system for the T8TA and our associated First Nation communities. Lori is the key person who files, retrieves and transfers the large volumes of recent and historical documentation for our archives library. Lori’s routine also keeps her very busy with digitizing text documents, movies and audio recordings, preparing documents for text retrieval through optical character recognition, scanning documents and photographs from the archives for research or supporting others with research and administrative assistance.

Lori is a member of the Upper Nicola Band at Douglas Lake, BC and she moved to Fort St. John in 1980. Lori graduated high school and attended the local Northern Lights College where she completed both, a business management program and an office administration program. Lori began her career at the Daley & Lewis law firm in 1990 and continued working there for 16 years – until she had her two children. After raising her children to elementary school ages, Lori re-established her career with the Treaty 8 Tribal Association as our Medical Transportation Clerk. Lori’s recent transition continues to demonstrate her value and skill in everything she does. Your visit to our office will be greeted with a friendly smile from Lori.
