Diane Abel is a member of the West Moberly First Nations and is of Dunne-za, Cree, and Saulteau descent. Diane has spent her early years growing up in West Moberly, which has played an important role in her values. Family, culture and traditions rank high on her priority list. Diane has raised her three children on her own and is a proud grandmother.

Diane is committed to doing her part in advancing healthy community growth and wellness. She brings 40 years of experience associated with fellow First Nations and has spent approximately 5 years serving on Council for West Moberly First Nations. She is a strong advocate in the area of Treaty, Land, and Resource Management. She also spent time as the Councilor responsible for Community Health Development.

Diane received basic education in Chetwynd, British Columbia, with a background in accounting and office administration. Other training includes Negotiations, Mediation, and Strategic Planning. Her education and training continues through traditional and cultural experiences within the Treaty 8 Territory and through the vision of the Elders and inspiration of the Youth.

Diane's primary role as the T8 Negotiation Project Director is to provide coordination, administrative, and organizational support to the Treaty 8 First Nations on negotiation issues such as co-jurisdiction/co-management, resource revenue sharing, cumulative impact assessment and compensation. Diane excels in leading her team to meet their mandate of creating superior methods to support the negotiation process and supplying current information in a meaningful, accessible, and professional manner to the Treaty 8 Members, Councils, and Governments.
