Treaty 8 Tribal Association Negotiations Project - 2004 to 2007
The Negotiation Protocol Agreement (NPA) is an agreement that was signed by the seven Treaty 8 Tribal Association First Nations Chiefs and the BC Provincial Government in March 2004 and will expire in March 2007. It lays out the subjects, rules, process, priorities, work plans, and funding obligations for the Negotiations Project. This agreement is not about re-negotiating the Treaty, but addresses the impacts of provincial development on our Treaty 8 Lands.The subjects included are:
- Resource Management: Co-management of Renewable and Non-renewable Resources
- Revenue Sharing, Revenue Generation and Economic Development
- Overlaps into Treaty 8 Territory Treaty Integrity
- Cumulative Effects of all Resource Development on Treaty 8 Lands
- Compensation on Current Infringements, with the option to Litigate Past Infringements later
