Treaty 8 Accord: The Voice of the People
Elders, Youth, Leaders, and Members
Elders, Youth, Leaders, and Members
This accord verifies the voice of the people, as documented from a three-day strategic workshop, held September 16-18, 2003 in Fort St. John, BC. Representatives from the seven BC Treaty 8 Tribal Association First Nations attended the workshop and agreed to collectively work together.
A common goal is to work on building strong, healthy families and communities, so that we can make decisions that affect our everyday life and future generations in a positive way.
This is an internal commitment from all seven Treaty 8 Tribal Association First Nations to:
- Work together to assert our "Inherent Right to Govern our Lands and its Resources"
- Help shape the thinking of our Leadership
- Secure the ongoing survival of our People
- Foster Strong, Healthy Families and Communities
- Foster good Governance and Self-determination
- Honour the True Spirit and Intent of the Treaty
- Set Aside our Differences and Work Together
- Create Economic Certainty.
This Accord lays out the context of the Resolution presented to the Government in September 2003.
