Treaty 8 covers the major waterways of the Peace River, Athabasca River, and Lake Athabasca, some 840 000 square kilometres of land. It includes most of the Provisional District of Athabasca and what was once known as the Northwest Territories. Today this Treaty covers Northern Alberta, the Northeastern quarter of British Columbia, the Northwestern quarter of Saskatchewan, and the area south of present day Northwest Territories' Hay River and Great Slave Lake.

Treaty 8 Tribal Association consists of six member communities and two other BC Treaty 8 Signatories in Northeastern BC. They are:
